It is well known that any work environments where hazardous dust, fumes, and other airborne contaminants are present is at risk of health and safety issues – however, the dust and fumes that develop during the handling and processing of chemicals have their own set of special challenges.
Chemical processing is used to make chemical compound changes and chemical structure changes of raw (bulk) materials to obtain products of value to other industries.
During chemical processing, products such as rubber, polymer, fragrances, and more are created using machining applications that generate hazardous dust and fumes. Chemical dust is also generated through the transportation or handling of materials or by cutting, sifting, or mixing applications.
Chemical dust is not only a danger to employees, equipment, and production. It may also be combustible. By utilizing a dust collection ducting system, you can lower the risk of dust escaping from production equipment. Chemical dust and fume ducting is key in the dust collection process to help reduce material loss, capture material for recycling or reuse, and prevent cross-contamination.
Ductwork works to draw in the airstream that is contaminated with dust and fumes from chemical processing facilities or work environments and sends it through the duct system and into a dust collector, where hazardous contaminants are properly filtered, captured, and collected.
Ducting systems also act as a secondary function to include protection against chemical spills, runaway reactions, and fires by acting as a physical barrier.
Nordfab® chemical dust and fume ducting can be and is used in industrial air cleaning / process ventilation systems of all types - almost anywhere there is a dust collector, air filter, weld or fume collector, baghouse, or cyclone installed.
