ACS introduces Industrial Ducting Systems

Plastic Dust Ducting

Plastic dust generated from the manufacturing, processing, handling, cutting, and shaping of plastic materials creates significant health and safety hazards in manufacturing and industrial environments. These synthetic particles are continuously produced during injection molding, extrusion, cutting, grinding, and assembly operations, requiring effective dust control systems to protect workers and maintain production efficiency.

Thermoplastic particles from heating and molding processes, fine plastic debris from cutting and machining operations, static-charged particles from conveying and handling systems, polymer dust from grinding and recycling activities, and packaging material particles from processing and assembly all pose respiratory and safety risks when airborne in manufacturing facilities.

Exposure to these contaminants occurs in plastic manufacturing environments where employees work near injection molding machines, extrusion equipment, cutting and shaping tools, conveyor systems, and assembly lines. Plastic dust can cause respiratory irritation, and these lightweight particles are easily dispersed throughout manufacturing areas. High concentrations of plastic dust in production zones create immediate safety and health risks for workers while potentially contaminating finished products.

These contaminants accumulate on equipment and surfaces, creating maintenance challenges and potential equipment malfunctions that can lead to production downtime. The static-charged nature of many plastic particles causes them to cling to surfaces and equipment, making cleanup difficult. Additionally, certain plastic dusts can present fire and explosion hazards when particles reach critical concentrations in enclosed spaces, requiring specialized dust collection systems to prevent dangerous accumulations.

Plastic Ducting Solutions

Industrial dust collection systems capture these contaminants using plastic dust ductwork mounted on molding equipment, cutting tools, conveyor systems, and assembly machinery. The captured airstream moves contaminated air through specialized filtration systems where it's cleaned and returned to the facility or exhausted outside to maintain clean production environments.

Nordfab® Quick-Fit® ducting provides solutions for plastic dust collection across injection molding facilities, extrusion plants, and plastic processing operations. The system's modular design enables rapid reconfiguration as production lines change, whether adapting to new equipment or modifying existing processes.

QF® ducting's technology ensures tight-fitting seals and significantly reduces installation time. The leak-free, clamp-together construction prevents fine plastic particles from escaping back into the production environment, maintaining system efficiency and worker safety while keeping production areas clean and contamination-free.

Plastics are one of the most widely used materials—ranging from end products to packaging and shipping materials. Due to high demand, plastic manufacturers must ensure that workshops and factories remain free of dust to keep production running smoothly.

Plastic dust forms when plastics are handled, processed, conveyed, cut, shaped, transported, etc. From petrochemical manufacturing facilities where raw materials are processed, to end-product assembly—if not properly controlled, plastic dust will escape equipment and settle on surfaces, increasing risks of injury, equipment malfunction, and production loss.

Industrial dust collection systems rely on ductwork to capture dust at the source and move contaminated air to a collector where it’s filtered and cleaned.
