Explosion Isolation Valve

Download CARZ Explosion Isolation Flap PDF

The Standards
Various NFPA standards require that a dust collection system has a means of preventing the transmission of energy from a fire or explosion to the building/work area. Through extensive testing by a third party testing facility, Nordfab has developed the Explosion Isolation Flap (EIF) type CARZ to be installed upstream of the dust collector.

How It Works
Under normal operation the flap will open as the downstream air moving device generates a flow in the ductwork. Should an explosion happen in the downstream equipment - like a dust collector - a pressure front develops in the ductwork within milliseconds and due to the design of the EIF, the internal flap will be forced closed and seal off the approaching flame front. This prevents glowing embers and burning material from entering into upstream equipment and spaces.

FAQs

What is the lead time to ship orders?
Most Explosion Isolation Valves ship within 5 business days. If a specialty order is placed or an item is out of stock lead time may increase up to no more than 5 weeks.

Are Explosion Isolation Valves compliant?
Yes, Explosion Isolation Valves are NFPA compliant when implemented with a dust level sensor, control panel, and miscroswitch. NFPA 69 sets construction, perform and certification requirements for Explosion Isolation Valves. It's important to be aware of NFPA 652, NFPA 654 and your industry's specific guidelines such as NFPA 61, NFPA 91, NFPA 484 and/or NFPA 664. Explosion Isolation Valves are tested by a 3rd part and are certified ATEX en16447 and en15089.

What is ATEX Certification?
ATEX is a term generally given to European Directives for managing what equipment is allowed to be installed in explosive environments. Because of the serious nature associated with explosion isolation devices, ATEX standards have been developed to make sure min. performance requirements are met. An ATEX certification if proof that equipment has met or exceeded the performance standards set forth by an accredited and unbiased 3rd party testing lab.NFPA 69 allows for No Return Valves (Flow Actuated Flap Valves) ATEX Certification to meet its 3rd party testing requirements.
